I need to consistently update.

So I haven’t blogged on here for a while, but have on a couple of other blogs. I am currently in production on a film of mine called The Ghost of Molly Brown. Information can be found here.

I recently started a blog about me watching 80 movies to celebrate 2008 but have decided against it, however am choosing something similar: film studies. Soon I’ll be offering movie studies on different movies, and am pretty excited. However, I’mgonna leave the page up because the address is cool for those who have read ‘Flicker’ by Theodore Roszak. Check it out here.

So look for film studies here soon. Now that I’ve finished Tafe and am awaiting a reply about my application I may as well do something I enjoy whilst looking for a job.

Tough life for a student.

And while I’m here updating, I read some of these posts and I don’t even know I write them. What the hell?! Nice documentation though.

Oh, I have also sent information to IMDb about my film and listed this as the Director’s Blog, as it IS my blog. And I’ve also sent my information to Inside Film In Production but whether the staff are laughing at it and not taking it seriously or it’s taking ages to process I dunno.

So I’ll see you soon soldier.

Alice in Wonderland (1903)

This is a great film. Well, whatever is left of it. The in-camera effects are absolutely great and eerily beautiful, but you can tell a lot of stuff was cut out/lost, and you need to know the story of Alice well (and let’s face it, who doesn’t?) to know what’s going on, as it jumps and bounds at an enormous speed!

If the music track on this was not here, I would actually say this was a horror film as the effects costumes and make up I think are quite frightening, but it’s like a train wreck (in a good way) and I want to look away but it’s just beautiful and I can’t divert my eyes.

The music (obviously laid in after the fact) is absolutely beautiful and mesmerizing and very well done, haunting and matching the concept of the story well, but I don’t think it matches the what’s actually on the screen well.

This film gives me hope that independent film-makers can do a fantastic adaptation of Lewis Carroll’s novel now in the public domain, because it IS a fantastic story, no matter what drugs Caroll was on, and it’s just absolutely timeless and charming, I think more adaptations should be made darker, more violent, and more scary. Because that’s what kid’s stories should be.

We all like going back to our childhood - right?

Well, the happy days anyways. And those happy days for me were those that involved Pokemon. Ah…the pointlessness of it all, isn’t it all amazingly nostalgic? Now it’s just gotten plain crap. Anyways - EzyDVD is having a sale and Pokemon: The First Movie was only five bucks! I was like why the hell not? I love Pokemon, especially the older years, the old games, after around the third movie I really lost interest in the series and movies but would still play the games if given them for Christmas or birthday or whatever. So this morning I watched Pokemon: The First Movie. And I felt like I was in that episode of South Park with Chinpokomon, only with the little Pikachu’s Vacation at the start. The little gaps where it had a Pokemon jiggling around saying its name wasn’t needed, then the paranoia kicked in, thanks to Theodore Roszak - what if there’s subliminal messages in it, in Pokemon, brainwashing anyone who watches it?

Of course I’m joking!!

Not really. Anyways, the reason I’m here talking about this is because I love the film itself, Mewtwo Strikes Back, up until Mewtwo makes them all forget. The thing is, it’s a good story point to get them back to the island, but everyone learned a lesson prior to Mewtwo’s departure. Now, he made them all forget. Then what the hell was the point of learning what was right and what was wrong? What’s that telling our little-uns? Let’s fight each other and then forget it happened and be friends? What the hell?

It’s still a good movie though, for old time’s sake. I’m sick of the new shit though, with all the bizarre looking Pokemon added to the list. Now I know hw my parents felt when this first became a hit.

Say what you will and it shall come true!

Told you a while ago that I was getting a Mac, didn’t I? Well here I am now typing from a MacBook mum got from school through the computer scheme. It’s fucking awesome - I’m going to replace the old computer in my room with the Mac and accessories tomorrow, and that might take a while but I wanna get it done. It’s so cool…can’t wait to make films on this now. I will be making a website with iWeb about my script for ScriptFrenzy and documenting the progress of rewrites, etc.

Catch you there.

Got a green thumb.

What’s up?

So I’m here listening to the cheerful beats of Basement Jaxx thinking about recent days in my life. I’m sorting out my financial stuff so that’s pretty sweet. My bro took me to the bank yesterday and I checked my book and I have around $317.18 or something, it’s pretty cool. Although I’ll probably go back tomorrow to withdraw around $200 so I can spend some on something as well as spend some money posting these eBay things. I had $20 today and prepared the items that have been paid for but I wanted to have extra money in case because I wanted to buy some popcorn/snacks/lunch/w/e as well as post some items, but I just put it off. I need to see the psychologist tomorrow bright and early, I’ll try and coax my brother (who this week I’ve basically made him my chauffeur,  which ain’t so bad, he listens to Tool and Smashing Pumpkins so it’s win-win) into taking me back to the bank so I can get money out, apply for online banking and get a cash card. THen we’re going to see Blades of Glory which looks pretty funny. Then I’ll try and get him to drop me off up the hill near the post office so I can post these things. Dunno if he’ll spend any time after here at our house but he’s going to have a packed day, whether one thing happens or not, then he has to work at 6:00pm. I’m so grateful to have him though, I’d be more lost than the cast members of Lost without him. (Bad joke, I know).

On the weekend I’ve basically planned for my brother, my father and I to see Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer. With a new superhero movie must an old one depart. Goodbye Spider-Man 3, will buy you the day you come out, that shit was awesome! Dunno about Fantastic Four though. I liked the first one and have it on DVD (even have the trashcan version!) but I don’t think I own it because I am a fan. I own it because it marked a time in my life, a very special time and 2004 and 2005 were very memorable years, and they both meant a lot to me, so even at the ripe age of two years old and me at 16, me and Fantastic Four have a nostalgic relationship. I am absolutely against Fox and Tom Rothman as they are basically all hacks (I’m sure those who work for Tom Rothman if I met them would be cool, though) but Tom Rothman brathes down the necks of directors like Tim Story and it becomes the company’s film, not the directors. That’s a big no-no. Not is Fantastic Four nostalgic to a certain extent, it’s also taught me about film politics and people like Tom Rothman. To be frank, these movies, these Fantastic Four movies aren’t made to please the fans, they’re made to make money. Throw in “the hottest stars” like Jessica Alba and Chris Evans (who doesn’t even TRY and look like Johnny Storm, whereas Jessica does attempt a transformation) and get them naked or half-naked for about five minutes, throw $150 million at an effects company to produce “amazing special effects” and market the hell out of it and you’ve made a profit. Granted, financially, Rothman knows what he’s doing, but he isn’t helping making cinematic gold. If you want to talk about cool studio heads, let’s talk about Amy Pascal, head of Columbia Pictures. ;)

Made a little change to the blog, made it green. Downloaded a theme for Firefox which is green. Made the Windows theme green and currently have a green Spider-Man game wallpaper as well as my WinAmp skin (Catwoman) with a green colour theme. I’m a green freak. But I’ll try and keep this blog theme because I like the heading designs. I’m pretty much content when I am surrounded by green, so I’m trying to bring that across in my blog to help tell you about myself. I am SICK of blue. Blue used to be my favourite colour but green took that spot over around four or five years ago and been my favourite ever since, it was around The Year of the Green (2003; the two Matrix Sequels and Hulk came out)…I think that was when I converted favourite colours.

The theme’s very simplistic. Doesn’t have page tags so I’m going to add that to the side-bar.

Script-Frenzy. Just around nine days left. I’ve got around 10300 words according to the Script Frenzy calculator and that’s more than the Microsoft Word wordcounter. So that’s a bonus. I think my script is revealed things a bit too early. But then again, not EVERY script is 120 pages and 20,000 words, now is it? Robert Rodriguez’s script for Once Upon a Time In Mexico was 45 pages and it doubled in screen time. Reading and watching take completely different amounts of time. So I might write some stuff that has SOME relevance but can easily be cut out without hurting the story. But I’m proud of it. I just hope I can do rewrites. I need a collaborator to keep motivating me.

Hmm…what else to yack on about? Bought three DVDs off EzyDVD around a month or two ago. Charlie Chaplin collection, Futurama Season 2 and the first three volumes of Round the Twist. I was eagerly awaiting them and then waiting got ridiculous so dad sent an email. It turns out we neglected them and the packages were sent back. So they’re going to be re-sent to us within the week I hope. I am watching the mailbox like a vulture. Well, a half-arsed vulture. I am DYING for the Chaplin and Round the Twist as well as Futurama (I’m getting sick of watching season three [the only Futurama I have]). I don’t think it was EzyDVD’s fault though. I think it was my local post office’s. I never saw ANY packages on our doorstep nor any parcel slips (which you need to trade in for the parcel at the post office) in the mailbox. So either they never delivered them, stole them, neglected to deliver them, forgot to deliver them or completely forgot they were sent to Kurrajong. It’s annoying. I just hope the parcels I’m sending to those who bought off me will get to them.

Ever heard of a band called Johnny Hollow? No? Go to their site. It’s sweet, but the Scuttlebug game is annoying, especially when you need to listen to the music (that’s your timer) and you need to do a level over and over again. Those fucking beetles don’t help either. I’ve given up, but their music is sweet. Think of if Tim Burton was a musician and not a film-maker, and you have Johnny Hollow (and no, I didn’t say that because Tim Burton made a movie called Sleepy Hollow which starred Johnny Depp).

Anyways, I may as well bugger off, you better have a life. Go live it and stop reading mine.

Actin’ Casual

So, like, five minutes ago I just beat Gears of War on Casual difficulty. Most gamers out there might laugh at that but I take pride in this as well as not being much of a gamer. So, in celebration, I’m going to do Hardcore. Then Insane.

Well…I have the time to do it.

All I can say is that I’m glad that I bought the special edition (giving me a deeper knowledge of this world with a book and DVD), I’m glad I live it,  and I’m glad Epic made it. All I can say is that I cannot wait for Gears of War 2 (funny how they left it open for a second one!) as well as the Gears of War movie…that shit is going to REEK!!! (In a good way!)

See you later - and yes, my vlog is coming.

Who doesn’t like making money?

So tonight I just finished ten auctions going to nine people on eBay, which is my first selling experience. Usually I have been a buyer but selling is pretty bizarre. I mean, we’ve sold stuff of mine I didn’t want before but that was on my father’s account and everything turned out alright really. But just because I’m a one-man band it’s become a little difficult to sort of keep track of stuff but I know it’ll all get solved and everything will be hunky-dory.

The frenzy has begun!

Righto, don’t really post here much but what the hell? I just thought I’d throw in my two cents.

So, ScriptFrenzy has just begun, Friday, June 1. I was fretting because I hadn’t had anything organized, sorting stuff out about Tafe, appointments, hanging out etc, and I started my script. My characters are evolving, and I don’t exactly know what it’s about, but it’s basically an assassin gets assassinated and the details behind that. I guess I shouldn’t have said that but hey it happens right at the start of the film…script…is at the start of the script. Flipt!

I’m amazed. Just write. People say that talking to yourself is the first sign of madness, but hey, it sure helps you write. And isn’t it amazing that a lot of writer/sactors/directors who write their own screenplays had a form of dementia in their late years or during their life?

Pfft. Laugh if you want - my jokes aren’t funny I don’t think, but SF is hella fun.

You need to do 20,000 words (equivalent of 120 pages) within the month, which isn’t actually too bad. You could do it in 20 days with 1000 words a day and have ten days break/editing/whatever. I actually ended up by the end of the night writing 2620 words. So today was a break, but the story is still bubbling in my little cauldron called my brain, and the witching hour could never have been more fun.

Until next time,
